Sneakers Review | Nike LeBron 19

The release of a LeBron James signature shoe is always an event. Even if the production and supply problems related to the Covid-19 pandemic have disrupted the marketing of this model, Basket USA could not miss this pair that will remain unique in the career of the King.

It is indeed with this LeBron 19 that the King had the heavy task to embody his own role in the film “Space Jam: New Era” and to succeed Michael Jordan by demonstrating in turn all his acting talents.

Beyond the many colors already sold since last summer, the “Space Jam” aspect is clearly felt in the design of the pair, a bit fancy in the finish of the collar, and with a lot of air bubbles, with a large bubble at the back of the shoe, one in the center of the tongue, and of course in the sole to ensure cushioning and general comfort.

The other element that stands out on this LeBron 19 and clearly contrasts with the trend towards lighter and lighter models, is its weight. Perfect for support, less ideal for explosiveness.

GENERAL COMFORT

Even if it is a general rule, it applies perhaps a little more to this LeBron 19: you have to take the time to “make” the pair. The inner shoe can be uncomfortable at first. Once you get the shoes on and get them right, the comfort is of course there, with a feeling of being “elevated” and a comfort that is there for the taking.

The “Flywire” cables help to maintain the entire foot and the air bubbles in the sole obviously have an effect. The “side” bubbles, however, are more of a gimmick.

AMORTI

It is the asset of this model supposed to answer the impacts of the gauges like that of LeBron James. The package is put on the sole, with a layer of cushlon resting on large air bubbles. The heel has a double Air Max unit, while the entire forefoot has a Zoom Air unit. This provides a very pleasant cushioning.

Whether on the heel or the forefoot, the energy return is quite exceptional.

TRACTION

The outsole lining provides good traction and response to basic footwork. However, the large air bubbles give this feeling of height that can restrict the quality of lateral support.

The whole thing also remains stiff and rather heavy. The LeBron 19 is clearly not aimed at smaller players, and that’s probably its main flaw since it limits its target.

SUPPORT AND STABILITY

Another strong point, so much so that it almost feels too tight at first. The support is firm, and ensured on the whole foot, under a solid stem and with the Flywire cables but also with the side reinforcements in light plastic, which reinforce the “secure” side of this model at the time of the lacing.

It also offers a very good stability, with a sole that is also generous on the lateral parts, so that the general comfort is really optimal.

FINISH AND DURABILITY

A two-layer upper with a transparent part to cover a mesh lining. A rather original finish on the collar that rises quite high in the form of a point. The King’s logo, his signature, the lion and several commas are the final touches added to the finish. The mesh tongue is matched with different messages according to the themes and colors.

As for durability, there is no doubt about the quality and durability of the upper. Regarding the sole and the resistance of air bubbles in time, it is more difficult to be affirmative. We can count on Nike to have done the maximum on this point, even if everything also depends on the surface and the use of each.

VERDICT

The LeBron 19 could not dream of a better springboard than a Hollywood super production with LeBron James as the main actor. On this point, we finally have the impression that neither the film nor the pair have really found their audience.

The context related to the Covid-19 pandemic has of course had a major impact on its distribution around the world. However, at the feet of the King, in the NBA or even in Europe, we have seen little LeBron 19 on the floors.

The 19th signature shoe of LeBron James deserved a better fate, because it has many advantages even if it is not for all sizes, with a record weight and an orientation based more on stability and verticality. The LeBron 19 remains a safe bet in its category.
