Dennis Scott to be inducted into Orlando Magic Hall of Fame

NBA – Franchise record-holder of the number of 3-point shots scored, Dennis Scott is the 12th personality to enter the Magic’s hall of fame.

Born in 1989, the Orlando Magic have the distinction of never having retired a jersey! Whether it’s the Shaq, Penny Hardaway or Tracy McGrady, there are no jerseys hanging from the ceiling of the gym. On the other hand, the franchise has set up a Hall Of Fame to distinguish executives, coaches and players, and it has just announced that Dennis Scott would be the 12th to be inducted, at a date still unknown.

“Dennis (Scott) remains one of the best long-range shooters in Orlando Magic and NBA history,” said Alex Martins, the franchise’s associate president. “His ability to shoot 3-pointers played a major role in our success during his time in Orlando and his records still stand. We are proud to make Dennis the next inductee into the Orlando Magic Hall Of Fame.”

Drafted in 1990, Scott played seven years with the Magic, and was part of the team that reached the Finals in 1995. The following year, he set an NBA record with 267 3-point baskets in a season. A record that will stand for 10 years. The same year, he made 11 3-pointers in a game, and this NBA record will remain untouchable for seven years. It is still a franchise record, and he still holds the record for the most 3-pointers scored by an Orlando player (981).

It was in 2014 that the Magic created its Hall Of Fame, and the first two inductees were co-owner Pat Williams and Nick Anderson, the first player drafted by the team. After that, Shaquille O’Neal (2015), Rich DeVos (2016), Anfernee Hardaway (2017), Jimmy Hewitt (2017), Tracy McGrady (2018), David Steele (2019), Darrell Armstrong (2020), John Gabriel (2022) and Brian Hill (2022) were inducted.
