Giannis Antetokounmpo pleased with Bucks’ historic start

NBA – For the first time in its history, Milwaukee starts the season with eight straight wins. The Greek is smiling.

By winning in Minnesota, the Bucks continued their march forward with an eighth win in eight games. The 2021 champions have yet to lose this season, and starting a year with an 8/8 is even a first for the franchise.

It’s one more mark for Giannis Antetokounmpo, who has continued to make Bucks history over the past few seasons.

“It’s great to be a part of this. You can’t overlook it,” the Greek assures ESPN. “I’m really fulfilled to experience this and have a team that’s able to start the season with eight wins in eight games.”

In the history of the league, only fourteen teams have managed to start the season 10-0. To emulate them, Wisconsin players will have to beat the Thunder and then the Hawks. It’s doable, even without Khris Middleton, or Pat Connaughton. But before looking ahead, the 2019 and 2020 MVP is pleased with the level of play of the Bucks.

“I’m mostly happy to see us build good habits. 8-0 is good, but I’m first proud of the way we’re playing. We’re defending together, we’re moving the ball, we’re getting open shots. We are collective. I hope these good habits continue, for the next game, the next 74 games and the playoffs.”

The regular season franchise record is stuck at 66 wins. It dates back to the 1970/1971 season, the year of the Bucks’ first title with Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Oscar Robertson. That may be a goal, but like the 2021 Finals MVP, Jrue Holiday is focusing on substance first.

“It feels good to be 8-0. We’re starting with confidence, we feel like we’re building good habits, playing well. We’re winning in a lot of ways: sometimes it’s close, sometimes it’s wide, sometimes we’re coming back,” said the former Pelicans player. “It’s great,” Wesley Matthews continued. “We’re playing to win every game and so far we’re managing to do that.”
